With the right kind of support, our young people can achieve anything.

But right now, school is a tough place for many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people. They’re living with the impacts of cultural loss and dislocation, intergenerational trauma, racism, discrimination and bullying. NASCA is here to walk alongside them. To connect them to Culture that teaches and heals them. To help them feel capable, valued and empowered, in ways that are special and unique to Mob.

Connection to Culture disrupts cycles of inequality Cultural connection creates a sense of belonging, fosters healing and promotes strength. When our young people are strong, they start to excel at school when they once struggled to attend. They feel proud of who they are and excited about who they can become.

Indigenous-led solutions are the key NASCA is 100% Indigenous-governed and led, and 93% of our staff identify as Indigenous. This means we are able to bring unique expertise, lived experience and cultural knowledge to our programs, so young people can thrive and succeed at school and beyond.

A supportive education leads to better pathways for the future Our intensive, wrap-around support enables our young people to chart their own future. From education to employment, to family life, to heights that we cannot yet dream of, and they are stronger and more empowered as a result.

Empowered people equals thriving communities Supporting young people to grow up healthy, happy and thriving means that the communities they live in – and the families they create – will be stronger as well.

A little bit of help can go a long way

For many of our young people, school can be overwhelming, and reaching out for help can be difficult. But NASCA staff are always there to lend a hand, whether that’s with in-class support, or help with assessments, and for Kyeema that has made a world of difference.

Building community and confidence day by day

Before Ayva joined NASCA she found it hard to trust people. Today, she has a solid community around her, her confidence has soared and most importantly she’s found a place where she can thrive.
