From the red desert to the deep blue sea, school children from Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory have visited Sydney's east for a surfing lesson.
In November 2024, NASCA hosted 35 young people from our partner communities across the remote Northern Territory for a week of fun-filled activities – one of which was surfing lessons at Maroubra Beach in Sydney.
The NT Camp is an annual event run by NASCA, and is designed as a reward for those students who engage well with school throughout the year.
It’s all about doing what we can to ensure our young people are coming to, staying in and graduating from school, especially in those remote areas, where school attendance, retention and attainment rates are some of the lowest in the country.
ABC Indigenous visited the camp to capture NASCA young people undertaking surfing lessons. You can watch the full story below by clicking on the image.
